PROCEDURE FOR REQUESTING MASSES, BREAD & WINE, or SANCTUARY LAMP - Updated December 2021
Due to Covid and based on what transpired with Mass requests for 2021 and the amount of time involved, we have (out of necessity) initiated some changes going forward and hope you understand. Appointments: Appointments are preferred and must be made in advance since Covid protocols are still in effect. Entry screening forms need to be filled out and masks worn for everyone’s safety. We will allot 20 minutes per appointment based on 2-3 Mass requests. Second appointments can be made if there are more than 3 requests so that each person is treated in a timely manner. Appointments will be made on Tuesdays from 1pm – 4pm and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am – noon and 1pm – 4pm. Call 394-1220 X 10 to schedule.
Prior to your appointment: We suggest you have requests written out and 3 date options for each one.
At your appointment: If possible, bring exact cash or have the check made out in advance (see “payments” below for more information). If needed, we will have someone able to make up Mass cards for you when you are here, but it will be a separate stop once you have your receipts done.
Mail-in Requests: Appointments are preferred. However, if your circumstances do not allow you to come in to the parish office in person, you may send in mail-in requests for up to three Mass requests. These will be honored and date-stamped as they come in, but all information must be complete and payment must be included. Incomplete requests will be returned. If you are making more than three Mass requests, you must make an appointment.Requests cannot be made over the phone. Forms can be found here. Mass Limitations: Due to backlogs last year and the number of people we had to turn away or put off until 2022, we will have to limit Masses requests this year. As such, individuals are limited to a maximum of 12 Masses requests per year for their deceased loved ones. Only four of those 12 Masses requests can be Sunday liturgies, which includes the 5:30pm Sunday-Anticipated Mass on Saturdays. You may wish to consider combining requests and using phrases like “For the Deceased Members of the _______ Family” rather than request a Mass for each individual. Note: Though Individuals can only request a max of 12 Masses for the 2022 calendar year, moving forward, requests will be on a “rolling 13-month basis” (ie. in January 2022, you can also request a Mass for January 2023; in February 2022, you also can request a Mass for February 2023, etc.), so the Mass book will always be open. Changes:Once your request has been scheduled in the Mass Book, we cannot accommodate requests to change the date. The only re-schedules may be due to inclement weather or a change in the clergy’s schedule, which are unavoidable. Payment: Mass requests are $10 each. We can accept checks made out to “St. Benedict Parish” or cash (exact amounts preferred if paying cash). If possible, checks should be made out in advance to expedite the process. Altar Memorials must be paid for separate from the Mass requests, and we can also accept checks or exact cash for these requests. The cost for these weekly memorials are: Sanctuary Lamps - $5, Bread and Wine - $15. Mass Requests for Families to Schedule: In the past, individuals have requested Masses but have wanted the families of the deceased to follow-up to schedule a time that works best for them.Unfortunately, most families did not call to schedule these Masses. We had to take much time to try to get phone numbers and contact them to schedule these Masses. To avoid this issue this year, we are asking that all Masses be scheduled by the requester. Enormous time and energy was expended so we ask for your help. Thank you for your understanding of these changes. The Staff and Volunteers
