My name is Cyndi Vespi and I will be teaching kindergarten monthly faith formation, as well as preparing monthly “at home” faith formation lessons. Soni Beecher will be the classroom helper as well.
We have 7 kindergarten children enrolled to date-this is a great number for learning / working on small projects.
I want to make faith formation fun for the kids while bringing them some meaningful content. I also don’t want the at home assignments to be a chore, but rather a fun experience. They will be some type of project you talk about and work on at home, and if possible, bring to class to share with everyone.
This is my general outline for the year and I hope everyone can make it every month!
The main theme of the year will be the Holy Trinity and we will incorporate Gospel teachings, a few short prayers, craft projects, short visits in the church to view church symbols up close, and real life examples of how to live as Christian children in today’s world.
Oct 17- The Trinity and God as Creator
Nov 14- God as Father
Dec 19- Advent and Jesus as a baby
Jan 16- Jesus’s early teachings
Feb 13- Lent/Jesus’s lessons
March 20- Holy week/Easter timeline for Jesus
April 24 – Holy Spirit
May 15 – Holy Spirit and Trinity within us
June – community class
Since there is no kindergarten workbook or lesson book, I will strive to come up with meaningful “at home” lessons you can work on and we will integrate those in the monthly class. We will also work on a small project during class that the kids can bring home and talk about with you. Some (hopefully most) months we will send the kids home with a sack of items needed for the next month’s home assignment—simply stash on a shelf or safe place until you receive the assignment plan the following month. This way you will have most of the supplies you need to get started.
Parents are also asked to watch the weekly Gospel reflections by Father Michael. I think the best idea is for parents to watch and pull one or two big points out and find ways to discuss with the kids during that week. (ie helping others, don’t be jealous, etc). Think in simple terms like a five year old!
Thank you all for making faith formation a priority in your child’s life!
