Confirmation preparation
"The Sacrament of Confirmation imparts a character and enables the person who has been baptized to continue on the journey of initiation into the Christian faith, by the grace of the Holy Spirit. Those who receive this Sacrament are empowered to witness to Christ in word and in deed, and to proclaim the gospel message."
General Information:
Confirmation, Year 1 typically takes place in 8th grade (or beyond)
Confirmation, Year 2 typically takes place in 9th grade (or beyond) with the celebration of the Sacrament in the spring.Overview/Requirements for Prep:
Confirmation Preparation throughout the Diocese takes place over the course of two years and begins no earlier than 8th grade. The goal of Confirmation Preparation is to ground candidates in the faith and prepare them to live a life of faith, strengthened by the grace of the Sacrament. To accomplish this, each candidate is expected to complete the following:- Catechetical Sessions
- Retreats
- Service
- Regular Mass Attendance
- Celebration of the Sacrament of Penance
- Participation in Faith Formation

Confirmation Prep 2024-2025
Schedule for non-Catholic School students:- Sunday, September 29 - Rite of Welcoming at noon Mass at St. Mary's Church with brief kick-off meeting in Dougherty Hall immediately following Mass
- Sunday, October 27 - 6pm-7pm in-person session in Dougherty Hall
- Sunday, November 24 - 6pm-7pm in-person session in Dougherty Hall
- Sunday, December 15 - attend 4pm Advent Prayer Service at St. Mary's Church as a class and then 4:30pm-5:30pm in-person session in Dougherty Hall
- Sunday, January 26 - 6pm-7pm in-person session in Dougherty Hall
- Sunday, February 23 - 6pm-7pm in-person session in Dougherty Hall
- Saturday, March 8 - 1pm-6pm Confirmation Retreat at Notre Dame Retreat House
- Sunday, March 30 - 6pm-7pm in-person session in Dougherty Hall
Important notes: In addition to the dates above, one online lesson (through Google Classroom) will be assigned per month from October - March.For Year 2 candidates: The Confirmation practice and celebration dates for spring, 2025 are still to be determined.Schedule for Catholic School students:- Sunday, September 29 - Rite of Welcoming at noon Mass at St. Mary's Church with brief kick-off meeting in Dougherty Hall immediately following Mass
- Sunday, December 15 - optional (but highly recommended) attend 4pm Advent Prayer Service at St. Mary's Church as a class
- Saturday, March 8 - 1pm-6pm Confirmation Retreat at Notre Dame Retreat House
Important notes: For Catholic School students, much of the Confirmation content is covered through school curriculum; therefore, the in-person sessions and the online lessons through Google Classroom are waived. However, Catholic School students are still required to attend the retreat and complete the community service requirements.For Year 2 candidates: The Confirmation practice and celebration dates for spring, 2025 are still to be determined.
